Astaxanthin is a dark red pigment belonging to the carotenoid family. This natural active ingredient is extracted from an algae called Haematococcus pluvialis, which produces it to protect itself from the sun's rays. Each capsule contains 40 mg of Haematococcus pluvialis algae extract, providing 10% pure astaxanthin, or 4 mg.
